Question : DEPOSITS UNDER NATIONAL SAVINGS



(a) the existing percentage of advances admissible to the State Governments from the deposits under National Savings ;

(b) whether the Government propose to revise the existing percentage of advance facility from the National Savings to cent percent ;

(c) if so, the Government`s reaction thereto ;

(d) the total collection of National Savings from Gujarat and other States during the last year; and

(e) the amount of advance outstanding to the States from the National Savings ?

THE MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE (SHRI YASHWANT SINHA)

(a) to (c) The recommendation of an Expert Committee `to transfer the entire net proceeds under small savings schemes to State Governments` has been accepted and acted upon since April 1, 2002.

(d) Net small savings collections in post offices during the year 2001-02 (upto February, 2002) in the State of Gujarat and other States and Union Territories of the country were Rs. 3592.02 crore and Rs.29102.45 crore respectively.

(e) An amount of Rs. 24194.32 Cr. due against net small savings collections in post offices during 2001-02 (upto January, 2002) has so far been released to the States and Union Territory (with legislature) Governments. Rupees 3417.95 crore is due for release to the States and Union Territory (with legislature) Governments in May,2002 against collections in February, 2002.
