Question : WIRELESS IN LOCAL LOOP SYSTEM



(a) whether the government propose to introduce wireless in local loop system in the Vellore District in Tamil Nadu region;

(b) if so, the time by which final decision is likely to be taken in this regard;

(c) whether the Government have any proposal to open more telephone exchanges in the region;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): Yes, Sir. There is plan to introduce Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) in Vellore district during next financial year. However, during the current financial year WLL systems have been planned for Tiruvannamalai district of Vellore Secondary Switching Areas (SSA) at the four sites namely, Wandiawash, Chengam, Tiruvettipuram and Tiruvannamalai.


(c) to (e): Yes, Sir. It is planned to open 5 new telephone exchanges, namely Paranjai, Paruthakkam, Melpadi, Verkalnatham and Velam in the district. Two exchanges, namely, Paranjai and Pathithakkam have already been opened. Remaining 3 exchanges are planned to be opened by 31st March, 2002.
