THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE (SHRI KANTILAL BHURIA)
(a) Yes, Sir. The research work on varieties of mango is being taken up by ICAR Research Complex, Goa, especially on Mankurad mango.
(b) & (c): Most of the Mankurad mango types of Goa are of seedling origin, they exhibit remarkable variation in terms of fruit, size, shape, colour, yield, quality and bearing habit. Therefore, intensive research programme is being undertaken to identify an ideal Mankurad type with less fibre, attractive colour and long shelf life. Mankurad (Assolna) has orange pulp with less fibre content, excellent fruit quality high Total Soluble Solid (TSS), attractive red shoulder and medium size of fruit (250g). Another promising accession of Mankurad recorded the fruit weight of 320 g with 20% TSS.
Accession A-115 possesses medium sized fruit (234g) with deep yellow peel, good TSS (21.4%) and less fibre in pulp.
Efforts are being made to popularize such varieties through exhibitions, multiplication and distribution of genuine grafts, publication and distribution of relevant literature and imparting training to Non-Government Organizations and private nursery men.
