Question : Naxal Base in Border Areas

(a) whether there are reports of growth of naxal bases along the borders of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto;

(c) whether the Maoists are hiding its arms in certain States particularly in Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal creating a security nightmare for Indian police;

(d) if so, the action taken by the Government to check such activities in the bordering States;

(e) whether the Government has signed any agreement with the neighbouring countries to deal with naxalism; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): No, Madam. There are no reports to indicate growth of naxal bases along borders of the country.

(c) & (d): No evidence is available to indicate that CPI (Maoist) are hiding its arms in Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.

(e) & (f): There is no agreement with our neighbouring countries on Left Wing Extremism. However, there are agreements with 21 countries on security cooperation for combating international terrorism and trans-national organized crime.
