STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA
STARRED QUESTION NO. 196* FOR 11TH DECEMBER, 2015
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has published the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) for the various levels of health facilities [District Hospital, Sub-district hospital, Community Health Centre, Primary Health Centre and Sub-centre.] in January/February 2007 and then revised in 2012.
The Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) are a set of uniform standards envisaged to improve the quality of health care delivery in the country and the States are encouraged to use them as reference points for public health care infrastructure planning and up-gradation of health facilities.
Under the National Health Mission (NHM), which subsumes the NRHM and the NUHM as its Sub-Missions, support is provided for States/UTs for upgradation of facilities to Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) based on requirements projected by the States/UTs in their Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs).
