Question : Promotion of Handloom Industry


(a) the quantum of assistance provided to Madhya Pradesh under various schemes for promoting the handloom industry during each of the last three years and the current year;

(b) the number of weavers provided assistance during the said period;

(c) whether the Government has any proposal for development of handloom industry in the State; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): The Government of India, Ministry of Textiles through the office of Development Commissioner (Handlooms) has been implementing following schemes for development of handlooms and welfare of handloom weavers across the country, including Madhya Pradesh:-

(i) National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP)
(ii) Yarn Supply Scheme (YSS) - under this scheme, funds are released to National Handloom Development Corporation, Lucknow
(iii) Handloom Weavers Comprehensive Welfare Scheme (HWCWS) – under this scheme, funds are released to Life Insurance Corporation of India for life insurance (on-going) and ICICI Lombard for health insurance (upto 30.09.2014).

These are on-going schemes and to be implemented during the XII Plan.
