Question : ROAD MAPS FOR AGRICULTURE SECTOR



(a) whether the Government has since decided to implement the seven point agenda of preparing road maps for improving the pitiable condition of the agriculture sector;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the extent to which it will increase the growth in the agricultural sector; and

(c) the amount of expenditure likely to be incurred thereon?

(a) and (b): The guidelines for agriculture development have been provided in the National Agricultural Policy announced in July, 2000, which envisages to achieve a growth rate in excess of 4 percent per annum. For this purpose various schemes are being implemented through Annual Plans and Five Year Plans. The policy also seeks to actualize the vast untapped growth potential of Indian agriculture, strengthen rural infrastructure to support faster agricultural development, promote value addition, accelerate the growth of agro-business, create employment in rural areas, secure a fair standard of living for the farmers and agricultural workers and their families, discourage migration to urban areas and face the challenges arising out of economic liberalization and blobalization.

(c): An outlay of Rs.13,200 crores has been fixed for the Xth Five Year Plan. For the current financial year, an allocation of Rs.2167 crores has been provided for different plan schemes for agriculture.
