Question : DEVELOPMENT OF FISHERIES SECTOR



(a) the details of the Centrally sponsored schemes for development of fishery sector and welfare programmes for fishermen in Kerala;

(b) whether the Government is aware of the huge threat to the fishermen community in Kerala due to sea erosion; and

(c) if so, the assistance provided by the Government to Kerala to effectively face the problem?

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR AGRICULTURE AND FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES (DR. SANJEEV KUMAR BALYAN)

(a) The following are the Central Sector Schemes:- a) National Scheme of Welfare of Fishermen, b) Development of Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture, c) Development of Marine Fisheries, Infrastructure and Post Harvest operations, d) Strengthening of Database and Geographical Information Systems, and e) National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) implemented by the Government for the development of fisheries and welfare of fishermen.

All State Governments/ UTs including Government of Kerala are eligible to avail benefits under these schemes.

(b)&(c) Government of Kerala has informed that sea erosion is affecting the life of fishermen community and that no assistance in this case is released to Fisheries department, Kerala.
