Question : FREE RAIL PASSES TO RAILWAY EMPLOYEES



(a) the total amount spent by the Railways on providing free rail passes to their employees during each of the last three years, till date;

(b) whether the Expenditure Reform Commission has recently recommended to the Government that expenditure on this account be curtailed substantially; and

(c) if so, the reaction of the Railways administration thereto?

(a): Passes to Railway Employees are given free of cost and as such its cost is not computed.

(b): Yes, Sir.

(c): The recommendations of the Expenditure Reform Commission to discontinue the passes to railway employees has not been found feasible for acceptance by Railways and the Committee of Secretaries. The disagreement is being conveyed to the Cabinet.
