(a) As per Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) 2014-15
to 2017-18 and UDISE+ 2018-19 (Provisional) The State-wise number of
primary schools, secondary schools, higher secondary schools over past
five years is at Annexure-I. As per All India Survey on Higher Education
(AISHE) 2018-19, the State-wise number of colleges, degree colleges,
technical education colleges, universities over past five years, is at
Annexure –II.
(b) State/UT-wise details of Central release for the creation of capital assets
under erstwhile schemes of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya
Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) from 2014-15 to 2017-18 and under
Samagra Shiksha in 2018-19 are at Annexure- III.
(c) As per the Unified District Information System for Education Plus
(UDISE+) 2018-19 (Provisional), in the schools the number of teachers is
94,16,895 and staff is 12,35,955. Drinking water is available in 14,83,212
schools, 28,88,828 toilets (Boys’ plus Girls’) are available in schools,
playground is available in 9,86,522 schools, library is available in 9,55,797
schools and computer lab available in 1,38,248 schools. As per the All
India Survey on Higher Education 2018-19 (AISHE), in the colleges and
universities, the number of teachers is 14,16,299 and staff is 12,14,302.
Playground is available in 35,319 Colleges/ Universities, library is available
in 37,131 Colleges/ Universities and computer lab is available in 33,221
Colleges/ Universities.
(d) The Department of School Education and Literacy has launched an
Integrated Scheme for School Education – Samagra Shiksha which
subsumes three erstwhile Centrally Sponsored Schemes of Sarva Shiksha
Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and
Teacher Education (TE) from 1st April, 2018. Samagra Shiksha focuses
inter alia on improvement in school infrastructure in all States and Union
Territories by providing support for various interventions like up gradation
of schools, strengthening of infrastructure of existing schools and provision
of composite school grant to every school for providing a conducive
learning environment. Under the Higher Education Financing Agency
(HEFA), a provision of Rs. 1,00,000 Crore has been made for
development of world class research and other basic infrastructure in
educational institutions by 2022.
