The Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has implemented a scheme for setting up 487 Community Information Centres (CICs) at Block Headquarters in the seven North-East States and Sikkim. The scheme has been implemented in the States of Arunachal Pradesh (56 CICs), Assam (215 CICs out of 219), Manipur (33 CICs), Meghalaya (32 CICs) Mizoram (26 CICs), Nagaland (52 CICs), Tripura (29 CICs) and Sikkim (40 CICs). 483 CICs have been set up till date. Rs.101.33 crores have been released so far for CIC project. Funds are released in composite manner for implementation of the project in North East States. It is not envisaged to set up CICs in the other parts of the Country.
