Question : INCLUSION OF MUSLIMS IN OBC LIST



(a) whether the Government have received any representation to include Muslims in OBC list;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) No, Sir. However, the National Commission for Backward Classes has received representations for inclusion of Muslims in the Central Lists of OBCs for the States of Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tripura and Union Territory of Pondicherry.


(b)&(c) On examination of the representations received referred to in answer to part (a) above, the National Commission for Backward Classes has recommended that the request of inclusion of Muslims in Goa, Pondicherry and Tripura in the Central List of OBCs may be rejected and the representations for inclusion of Muslims in the States of Karnataka and Kerala in the Central List of OBCs may be accepted by the Government. On due consideration these recommendations of the Commission have been accepted by the Government.
