MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS
(SHRI HANSRAJ GANGARAM AHIR)

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. Two cases of security breaches at Delhi Metro have been reported during the last three years and the current year. On 01.10.2015, a commuter smuggled a country-made pistol, which had been passed on to him at Chandni Chowk metro station, by taking advantage of the low height of the partition between paid and unpaid areas. He sustained minor injuries when he shot himself at Rajiv Chowk metro station. A case under the Arms Act was registered against him.

In the other incident (11.04.2016) two persons entered Rajendra Place metro station and looted about Rs.12 lakh from the Station Controller’s Room, after stabbing him. A criminal case was lodged at Raja Garden Police Station. Both miscreants have since been arrested by Delhi Police.

(c): Security audit was conducted by the central security agency. The security audit report has recommended various measures such as raising the height of partition between paid and unpaid areas to 6 feet or above, strengthening the security arrangements at Customer Care Counters and exit Automated Fare Collection (AFC) gates, besides improving Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) monitoring mechanism.

Subsequently, the height of side gate/Glass barriers separating unpaid and paid areas, has been increased significantly at a number of metro stations. AFC exit gates have been brought under CCTV surveillance system.
