(a) whether Dutch agencies are working in India on developing floating rice varieties which may prove useful in low lying coastal areas;

(b) if so, whether ICAR have also identified goat varieties which can live only on sea water which may also prove valuable in coastal areas affected by global warming;

(c) if so, whether Government are satisfied with present status of steps taken for meeting threats from global warming;

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) No, Sir.

(b) According to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research(ICAR), the Nicobari goats survive in high saline conditions in the Nicobar Islands..

(c)&(d) The existing legal and policy framework adequately addresses the concerns of global warming. The initiatives include improvement in the efficiency of conventional energy generation and use, development of major renewable energy programmes, promotion of clean coal and bio-mass energy technologies as well as conservation of forests.
