Question : Promotion of SDS

(a) whether the Government is progressing with Swadesh Darshan Scheme (SDS) for boosting tourism sector and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has collaborated/proposes to collaborate with some Non-Governmental players to promote SDS and if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by the Government in this regard;
(c) the manner and extent to which such collaboration will help to improve tourism in the country;
(d) whether the Government has taken steps for the development of tribal and rural circuits under SDS and if so, the details thereof;
(e) whether the Union Government has received proposals from various States including Odisha, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu for the development of Tourism Circuits and if so, the details thereof and the response of the Union Government thereto; and
(f) whether all identified Tourism circuits have been made operational and if so, the details thereof including the number of tourists who participated in each circuit under the said scheme?

(a) to (f): Yes, Sir. The Ministry of Tourism has revamped its Swadesh Darshan scheme as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) with the objective to develop sustainable and responsible destinations following a tourist & destination centric approach. The guidelines for SD2.0 envisage encouraging the States for opportunities for Private-Sector and Public-Private Partnerships.

The Ministry of Tourism under its Central Sector Scheme - Swadesh Darshan 1.0 (SD1.0) has sanctioned 76 projects throughout the country including the States of Odisha, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu under various thematic circuits. The details of the projects sanctioned under Tribal & Rural circuit in SD1.0 is as under: -

Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of the assets created under Swadesh Darshan scheme is undertaken by the concerned State Governments/Union Territory Administrations. The Ministry of Tourism is not maintaining any data of the number of tourists who participated in each circuit under the scheme.
