(a) whether there has been huge growth in air traffic at airports in the country recently;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether this has put pressure on the airport infrastructure; and
(d) if so, the steps taken by the Government to strengthen airport infrastructure especially at Lucknow airport?

(a) & (b) Yes, Madam. The passenger traffic at Indian Airports witnessed strong growth rate of 18.3% during 2016-17 over the 2015-16. During the current year (April-May 2017) also the total passenger traffic witnessed a significant growth rate of 14.6% over the same period of 2016.;
(c) & (d) The growth in air traffic has certainly put some pressure on the airports but continuous process of upgradation in infrastructure of airports helps in coping with the growth in air traffic including Lucknow airport for which Project Management Consultant has been awarded for expansion of existing terminal building for an estimated cost of Rs.880 crores.
