Question : WORLD AYURVEDIC CONGRESS



(a) whether the Four Day World Ayurvedic Congress was held in the capital recently;

(b) if so, the details of the topics discussed;

(c) the main decision taken in the congress; and

(d) the response of the Union Government thereon?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI A. RAJA)


(a): World Ayurved Congress was held at Kochi, Kerala from 1st to 4th November, 2002.

(b): The main theme of the Congress was `Ayurveda and the World Health` to showcase strengths of Ayurveda to the world. The topics discussed included globalisation of Ayurveda, conservation and sustainable use of medicinal plants, standardisation of herbal drugs, highlights of Ayurveda etc.

(c): The organisers have informed that the following resolutions were passed in the congress:-
(i) setting up of body at the national level to oversee the policy implementation and treatment method of Ayurveda;
(ii) setting up of World Council for Ayurveda with headquarter in India:
(iii) setting up of advanced training facility and research establishment on Ayurveda in different parts of the country;
(iv) production of medicinal plants and extraction of herbal concentrates; and
(v) independent Ministry for Ayurveda with separate budgetary allocation.

(d): The Department has not received the deliberations of the Congress.
