Question : Increase in Plantation

(a) whether it is a fact that the Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) has recommended for private players to be permitted to raise plantations to be later used for Compensatory Afforestation (CA);
(b) if so, the details thereof and whether the Government has accepted or likely to accept this recommendation of FAC; and
(c) the details of the ownership over the land and source of land in case the FAC recommendation towards involvement of private players in raising plantations is accepted by the Government?

(a) to (c) The Forest Advisory Committee (FAC), a statutory body under the provisions of Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 in its meeting held on 19.12.2019 has recommended to Government for considering plantations already raised in non-forest lands in lieu of stipulated compensatory afforestation (CA) subject to certain conditions.

It has also been recommended that, such land as provided by the user agency shall be notified as protected forest/reserved forest for bringing it under the scientific forest management.
