Question : LITERACY RATE AMONG TRIBAL STUDENTS .



(a) The present literacy rate among the Scheduled Tribes (STs) indicating the break-up of male and female literacy rates and its comparison visvis the overall literacy rate in the country, State/UT-wise;

(b) Whether the present improvement of the literacy rate of tribals is adequate to enable them to get the benefit of education and socio-economic development;

(c) If so, details of the schemes being implemented by Government to improve the literacy level of STs along with the financial assistance released and utilized thereunder during each of the last three years and the current year, Scheme and State/UT-wise;

(d) The achievements made under the said schemes during the said period, Scheme and State/UT-wise; and

(e) The steps being taken for maximum enrolment of tribals and reducing dropouts at the elementary level by creating the required ambience for education?

(b): While it is a fact that the literacy rate of tribals is below the overall national literacy rate, the efforts of the Government and other organizations in this regard are showing results and the benefits of education is becoming visible in the day to day life of tribals.
