Question : Shortage of Bulletproof Jackets

(a) whether there is acute shortage of bulletproof jackets and helmets for the personnel of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof, force-wise; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to purchase/provide light weighed bulletproof jackets and helmets of international standards to the personnel of CAPF?

(a) to (c): Requirement of Bullet Proof Jackets and Helmets changes with increase in strength of forces and change in theatres of action from time to time. The concerned forces and MHA take necessary steps to meet this requirement accordingly

Government of India has been making provisions for improved versions of Bullet Proof Jackets and Bullet Proof Helmets for CAPFs keeping in view the approved Qualitative Requirements (QRs) and International Standards. As per latest approved QRs of MHA, the weight of the BP Jackets has been reduced to make it light weight and accordingly procurement of 38,862 light Bullet Proof Jackets and 27,812 Bullet Proof Helmets is being done on a need basis as per operational requirement of the CAPFs.
