Question : Grid Infrastructure

(a) whether it is a fact that the present grid infrastructure is not technically equipped to absorb a massive influx of variable and intermittent renewable energy;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; and
(c) the steps being taken to improve the grid infrastructure along with the proposed financial investments in future to meet the requirement?

(a),(b)&(c): Yes, Madam. In order to create transmission infrastructure for evacuation of renewable energy from generation points to the load centres, a Green Energy Corridor project is under implementation in the States of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. The KfW, Germany has agreed to provide concessional loan of upto Euro 1 billion for the project. In addition, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a financial support of Rs 4057 crore for creating intra-state transmission infrastructure under the project.
