Question : Installation of Modern Equipments at Calicut Airport

(a) whether there is any proposal to erect navigation radar system and other modern equipments for the better functioning of calicut airport in Kerala;

(b) if so, the details thereof including estimated cost from the same and likely time of its completion;

(c) whether all the airports in the country are equipped to facilitate the landing and take-off of aircrafts during bad weather; and

(d) if not, the time by which all the airports in the country would be provided navigation radar and other modern equipments so that flights can be operated even in bad weather?

(a) & (b) : No, Madam. There is no such proposal at present. ;

(c) & (d) : No, Madam. Technological advancement of airports is a continuous process. Depending upon the traffic density, the weather conditions and the terrain, the airports are classified for operations under Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) and Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) . Only those airports under IMC are equipped with Instrument Landing System (ILS) and other modern equipment to facilitate flight operations during bad weather conditions. Presently, 53 airports in the country are equipped with ILS.
