Question : Boosting Agriculture in Rajasthan

(a) whether the Government has formulated any scheme to give boost to agriculture in unaccessible and dry areas like Rajasthan;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether hybrid seeds have been developed for giving high yield and requiring less water; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): Agriculture is a State subject. However, Government of India facilitates the State Governments through various Centrally Sponsored and Central Sector Schemes viz. National Food Security Mission (NFSM), Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana etc. Government of India is implementing Micro Irrigation (MI) as part of the PMSKY-Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) across the country for enhancing productivity and minimizing risk associated with climatic variability in inaccessible and dry areas like Rajasthan.

Funds released under the PMSKY – Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) Scheme to the State of Rajasthan during the last 3 years and current year are as follow:

(c) & (d): Hybrid varieties of seeds have been developed with resilience to moisture stress. These hybrids have high level of moisture stress tolerance. Likewise in case of sorghum, moisture tolerant hybrids are in cultivation in states like MP, Maharashtra and Karnataka. As reported by the States the requirement and availability of Certified/quality seeds of high yielding Hybrids (including Rajasthan) during the years 2017-18 to 2019-20 is Annexed.
