Question : NGT DIRECTIVE ON OLD VEHICLES



(a) whether the Government proposes to formulate any action plan for complying with the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to put a ban on all vehicles which are more than fifteen years old from plying in Delhi;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether such plan is likely to be implemented in other metros and cities of the country; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (d) The Hon’ble National Green Tribunal (NGT) in its order dated 26.11.2014 on banning of 15 years old vehicles in Delhi. In the same order, NGT has directed Regional Transport Offices of National Capital Territory of Delhi, not to issue/ renew regist- ration of vehicles or fitness certificate to any vehicles which is more than 15 years old. Further, NGT in its order dated 28.11.2014, has also directed for banning public transport buses which are more than 15 years old.

The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change is not aware any action plan for complying with the orders of NGT and any plan is likely to be implemented in other metros and cities of the country, as the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 is being admini- stered by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
