Question : Upgrading of Physiotherapy Course

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the diploma courses in physiotherapy have been upgraded to Bachelors Degree and if so, the objectives and reasons therefor;

(b) whether the Government had conducted any study regarding the impact of such an upgradation;

(c) whether the specialisation courses like ortho, cardio, sports and neurology in physiotherapy are available and if so, the details thereof along with the reasons for starting these courses; and

(d) the details of employment opportunities, pay scales and group of services likely to be inducted in Government services for physiotherapists?

(c): As per the Model Curriculum, Masters courses suggested in Physiotherapy stream includes the following streams:
a Musculoskeletal Disorders and Sports
b Neurological and Psychosomatic disorders.
c Cardio- Respiratory Disorders.
d Community Physiotherapy.
e Pediatrics
f Obstetrics and Gynaecology

(d): Physiotherapy positions are released by Government/ autonomous institutions, based on their requirement and as per their extant rules and regulations. 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) has recommended replacement pay levels for physiotherapists.
