Question : Drinking Water Crisis

(a) Whether the Government is aware of the drinking water crisis in several States including Santhal Pargana Division of Jharkhand;
(b) If so, the steps taken to improve the situation in those States, State-wise; and
(c) the steps taken by the Government for improving the supply of drinking water in water scarce districts?

(a) As reported by States/ UTs, as on 08.02.2021, with sources at a reasonable distance, 79.21% rural habitations having 78.15% population have provision of minimum 40 litre per capita per day (lpcd) of potable drinking water and 17.91% rural habitations having 19.31% population have service level of less than 40 lpcd potable water, whereas 2.87% rural habitations having 2.53% of the rural population have water quality issues in ground water sources.
(b) & (c) Government of India in partnership with States, is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)–Har Ghar Jal to enable every rural household in the country to have potable water through tap water connection by 2024. The estimated outlay of the mission is Rs. 3.60 lakh Crore. Under the mission, every rural household to get potable drinking water supply in adequate quantity of prescribed quality on long-term and regular basis.
