Question : DEVELOPMENT OF ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE



(a) the financial assistance received from World Bank and other foreign financial institutions for development of road infrastructure during the last three years and thereafter, State-wise;

(b) the details of the projects undertaken by the said assistance in various States particularly Karnataka and Maharashtra;

(c) whether the assistance has been fully utilised;

(d) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(e) the other steps taken by the Union Government to develop the road infrastructure in these States?

(c) & (d) The Projects are in various stages of implementation.

(e) The Government has undertaken a prestigious programme of National Highways Development Project (NHDP). NHDP comprises 4/6-laning of the Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) connecting the four metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata and North-South & East-West Corridor connecting Srinagar to Kanyakumari and Silchar to Porbandar, respectively. In respect of non-NHDP sections of National Highways, Government has been undertaking improvement of riding quality, widening and strengthening, on the basis of traffic needs, inter-se priority and availability of funds.
