Question : Beedi Workers’ Hospital

(a)the current status of the Beedi Workers’ Hospital in Mukkudal Town, Tirunelveli;
(b)the amount of funds sanctioned for the renovation and upgradation of the said hospital;
(c)whether the Government has any plans to transfer the administration of the said hospital to the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation; and
(d)if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PART (a) TO (d) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 10 FOR 18.11.2019 RAISED BY SHRI GNANATHIRAVIAM S. REGARDING BEEDI WORKERS’ HOSPITAL.

(a) Currently, the 30 Bedded Central Hospital for Beedi Workers is functioning at Mukkudal, Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu to attend to / treat out-patients only through static and mobile clinics between 09:30 A.M. and 04:30 P.M. from Monday to Friday and between 09:30 A.M. and 01:30 P.M. on all Saturdays.

(b) Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE) sanctions funds towards the Labour Welfare Health Scheme to the Regional Labour Welfare Organisations. No specific fund for renovation and upgradation of Central Hospital, Mukkudal, Tirunelveli has been sanctioned by the O/o DGLW, Ministry of Labour Employment.

(c) & (d) Yes, the matter related to merging of hospitals run by Office of Directorate General of Labour Welfare (DGLW), Ministry of Labour & Employment with the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is under process.
