Question : INTRODUCTION OF PPM SULPHUR DIESEL .



(a) whether the Government has any proposal to introduce 50 PPM sulphur diesel throughout the country as part of ‘clean air policy’ of the Government;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the main recommendations of the 2005 Mashelkar Committee Report;

(d) whether the Ministry has implemented any of the main recommendations of the said Report;

(e) if so, the details thereof; and

(f) if not, the reasons therefor ?

(a) & (b) : As per the road map given in the Auto Fuel Policy, based on the recommendations of Mashelkar Committee, Government is to introduce Euro IV equivalent petrol and diesel with 50 ppm sulphur in 11 cities viz., Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahemadabad, Pune, Surat, Kanpur and Agra with effect from 1.4.2010.

(c) : The main recommendations of the Mashelkar Committee Report are :

# Introduction of Euro-III equivalent Bharat Stage-III petrol and diesel in 11 cities viz., Delhi /NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahemadabad, Pune, Surat, Kanpur & Agra and Euro-II equivalent Bharat Stage-II petrol and diesel in the rest of the country w.e.f. 1.4.2005.

# Introduction of Euro-IV equivalent Bharat Stage-IV petrol and diesel in 11 cities viz., Delhi/ NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahemadabad, Pune, Surat, Kanpur & Agra and Euro-III equivalent Bharat Stage-III petrol and diesel in the rest of the country w.e.f. 1.4.2010.

(d) to (f) : The Ministry has already implemented the main recommendations of the Mashelkar Committee Report in respect of fuel quality as applicable from 1.4.2005.
