Question : ISSUE OF FREE PASSES TRAVEL BY RAIL



(a) The number of free passes for travel by rail issued since the coming into power of the new Government;

(b) the State-wise details thereof;

(c) whether no action is taken on the letters of the Members of Parliament for issuing free passes and their letters are not even replied to; and

(d) if so, the reasons therefor, and the Governments reaction thereto?

(a) & (b): Since the coming into power of the new Government, four complimentary card passes under discretionary powers of Minister for Railways have been renewed, 2 for Bharat Scouts and Guides, Delhi and 2 for Missionaries of Charity, Calcutta.

(c) & (d): In view of the need for austerity and economy, no complimentary card pass under discretionary powers of the Minister of Railways has been issued /renewed since 15.11.1999. Keeping in line with the extant policy of not issuing/renewing complimentary card passes under discretionary powers of the Minister of Railways, requests received for issue of complimentary card pass are, generally, not processed further.
