Question : YAMUNA RIVER



(a) whether the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked all Government agencies to implement a Rs. 4000 crore plan in 30 months to ensure substantial reduction of pollution in the Yamuna`s Delhi stretch and beautify river banks;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Union Government is going to implement a suggestion given by the research scholars from University of Virginia`s School of architecture to develop parks and community farms which will help turn the Yamuna floodplain into an eco-friendly place; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and by when it will be implemented along with the budget allocation?

(a)&(b) Yes, Madam. The Hon’ble National Green Tribunal (NGT) in its order dated 27th November, 2014 has directed concerned authorities “to ensure that the entire project is completed within a period of two and half years from today and is effectively executed without any delay”. The report submitted by the Expert Committee constituted by the NGT envisaged an estimated cost of Rs. 4000 crore for the project.

(c)&(d) No such proposal has been received in this ministry. However, an amount of Rs. 100 crores has been allocated in the Union Budget for 2014 -15 for Ghat development and beautification of river front at 7 selected locations including Delhi.
