Question : Grants to NWDA

(a) whether the Government has sanctioned any special grants to National Water Development Agency (NWDA) to develop new irrigation projects in the country, if so, the details thereof; and

(b) the detailed terms and conditions laid down for the purpose, if any?

(a) & (b) The Government has not sanctioned any special grants to National Water Development Agency (NWDA) to develop new irrigation projects in the country so far. However, NWDA has been identified to act as an agency for borrowing resources for Long Term Irrigation Fund (LTIF) and release Central Assistance to the State Governments towards the prioritized Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) -AIBP (Major & Medium Irrigation) Projects and their Command Area Development & Water Management (CADWM) works, for their timely completion. Memorandum of Agreement for borrowing from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to fund Central share in these projects was signed by the Ministry of Water Resources, RD & GR, NWDA and NABARD on 6th September, 2016.
