Question : Awareness Programmes for AYUSH

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has implemented/proposes to implement various schemes/programmes to create awareness regarding AYUSH system of medicines particularly Ayurveda in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the funds allocated and utilised for the purpose during the last three years and the current year, programme/scheme and State/UT-wise?

ANSWER

(a) & (b): Government of India has approved and notified Centrally Sponsored Scheme of
National AYUSH Mission (NAM) on 29.09.2014 which envisages better access to AYUSH services through up gradation of AYUSH Hospitals, Dispensaries, setting up of co-located AYUSH facilities and 50 bedded integrated AYUSH Hospital.; strengthening of AYUSH educational institutions, facilitate the enforcement of quality control of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani & Homoeopathy (ASU & H) drugs and sustainable availability of ASU & H raw-materials in the States/UTs during 12th Plan.

Further, the following provisions have also been made for spreading awareness of AYUSH systems of medicine including Ayurveda through Public Health outreach activity for managing community health problems, Adoption of villages for propagation and interventions of health care through AYUSH Gram and School Health Programme through AYUSH by way of addressing the health needs of school going children.

The Government has set-up five autonomous Research Councils, namely, Central Council for Research in Ayurveda Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy(CCRYN), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicines (CCRUM), Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) and Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH). These Councils have 82 Research Institutes. Besides research work, these councils are also engaged in health care and outreach activities which help to create awareness among general public.

Under the Central Sector Scheme of Information, Education and Communication; publicities through various media channels and other publicity activities like organizing Arogya fairs, providing financial support for organising conferences, seminars, workshop etc. has been taken up to create awareness regarding AYUSH system of medicine including Ayurveda in the country.

National Ayurveda Day was celebrated to create awareness regarding Ayurveda system of medicine in the country on the day of Dhanwantri Jayanti which was fall on 28.10.2016 last year.

(c): The status of funds allocated and utilised for the purpose since inception of Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM) State/UT-wise is furnished at Annexure-I and for Central Sector Scheme of Information, Education and Communication is at Annexure-II.
