(a) whether the Government of Uttar Pradesh has urged upon the Union Government to redetermine the Poverty Line in respect of the State to treat the families with an annual income upto Rs 15,000/-as Below Poverty Line from the existing income Rs. 9000/-; and

(b) if so, the reaction of the Union Government thereto?

(b) The Planning Commission has estimated the poverty line in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh as per capita consumption expenditure of Rs 272.53 per month in 1996-97 and that of urban areas Rs.320.84.
