Question : MISSING OF INDIANS



(a) whether a large number of Indians have been reported missing after the sinking of a ship near Doha in Qatar;

(b) if so, whether any dead bodies of Indians have been recovered/identified and handed over to their families;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government has provided/proposes to provide financial assistance to the families affected by this tragedy; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF OVERSEAS INDIAN AFFAIRS (SHRI VAYALAR RAVI)

(a) to (e) Indian Mission in Qatar has reported that, nineteen Indians were in the ship which sank near Doha. Three of them have survived. Sixteen bodies were recovered of which mortal remains of nine have been sent by the Indian Mission to India and four bodies have been buried locally on the basis of the consent received from next of their kins. Details are enclosed at Annexure A.

Further the Mission is in touch with the concerned companies who have assured to provide financial assistance to the bereaved families of the victims.
