Question : Funds Allocation to Unani Universities

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA,YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) the details of the funds allocated for imparting education of Unani medicine during the last five years;

(b) the details of Unani medical College/Universities/ Institutes/Hospitals across the country;

(c) the total number of Unani Hospitals in the country, State/UT-wise alongwith North-East Region including Assam;,

(d) whether the Government is considering to establish a Unani Hospital in the Barpeta district of Assam, if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the details of existing as well as upcoming Unani Medical Universities and the details of such Universities where Unani medicine is taught across the country?

(a): The details of funds utilized for imparting education of Unani Medicine by Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) & National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM) and funds approved under Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM) for upgradation of 8 State Government Unani Colleges and setting up of 2 new State Government Unani Colleges during the last five years is as under:

(b): The details of Unani medical college/Institutions are attached at Annexure-I
The details of Clinical Institutes/Units under CCRUM are attached at Annexure-II
The details of Unani Hospital are attached at Annexure-III.

(c): There are 267 Unani Hospital in the Country as per details at Annexure-III.



(d): As Public Health being a state subject, establishment of Unani Hospital in the Barpeta district of Assam comes under the purview of State Government of Assam. However, under Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM) there is provision for financial assistance for setting up of upto 50-bedded integrated AYUSH Hospitals including system of Unani. State Government of Assam may avail the eligible financial assistance by submitting suitable proposal through State Annual Action Plan (SAAP) as per NAM guidelines. The Central Government has approved two upto 50 bedded integrated AYUSH Hospital at Goalpara and Majuli in Assam as per proposal received from State Government of Assam.

(e): At present, there is no Unani University exist, however, a proposal is under consideration to upgrade the National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM), Bangalore as ‘Deemed to be University’ under UGC.
