Question : Domestic Production of Steel

(a) whether the share of domestic production in consumption of Steel is declining in the country whereas the share of import is increasing over the years;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to increase the custom duty in order to minimize the share of import in consumption of Steel; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a)&(b): No, Sir. Data on total consumption, share of domestic production and imports in consumption for the last three years is given below. This indicates a declining trend in the share of imports and a positive growth of share of domestic production in consumption of total finished Steel.
