Question : NOTICE TO RAILWAY BY POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD



(a) whether the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has served show cause notices to the General Managers of Central and Western Railways for their failure to keep main line and suburban stations clean; and

(b) if sos the steps taken by the Government to keep the stations and mainline clean in Murnbai?

(a): Yes, Sir.

(b): In order to keep the stations and mainline clean in Mumbai, various steps have been taken like provision of waste collection bias to enable proper disposal of waste to nearest identified waste collection locations, regular announcements through Public Address System to educate the commuters, awarding of rag picking contracts at major stations, cleaning of railway tracks by machines along with special gang of safaiwalas etc. Washable aprons are also being provided at important stations in a phased manner. Besides, regular inspections are being conducted by the railway officials to monitor and identify weak areas and take remedial measures as and when required.
