Question : REDUCTION IN MEDICAL SEATS



(a) whether the Medical Council of India (MCI) has reduced some seats in Medical Colleges in the country including Maharashtra;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise, medical college-wise and the reasons therefor; and

(c) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to increase the seats in those colleges where the same have been reduced?

MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI GHULAM NABI AZAD)

(a) to (c) The Central Government has reduced the number of MBBS seats from 150 to 100 at Bhaskar Medical College, Yenkapally, Andhra Pradesh and Konaseema Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Foundation, Amlapuram, Andhra Pradesh on the recommendations of Medical Council of India. The seats were reduced on the basis of written requests received from the college authorities.
