Question : BUSINESS ACTIVITIES BY FOREIGNERS



(a) whether a number of foreign tourists are engaged in business at tourist places in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to issue instructions to the State Governments to appoint a Tourism Officer to oversee such activities; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF TOURISM(SHRI SULTAN AHMED)

(a) to (d): A Tourist Visa, according to Ministry of Home Affairs instructions of April, 2010, can only be granted to a foreigner who does not have a residence or occupation in India and whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, sight seeing, casual visit to meet friends and relatives etc. No other activity is permissible on a Tourist Visa. The Tourist Visa is non-extendable and non-convertible. Ministry of Tourism does not have any data of foreign tourists engaged in business while in India.
