(a) whether the Government of Madhya Pradesh has taken a decision to wind up the Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief Department in total disregard to the Supreme Court Directive in the matter;and
(b) if so, the action proposed by the Union Government in this matter?

(a) and (b) According to information available with the Government, the State Government of Madhya
Pradesh has given an assurance in the Supreme Court in LA. No. 8 in W.P. (Civil) No. 50/1998, that
until further orders the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, Relief and Rehabilitation Department would not be
merged with the Public Health and Family Welfare Department.
