(a) to (c) Government has approved the North East Gas Grid project of Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) with Viability Gap Funding (VGF) / Capital Grant at 60% (Rs.5,559
crore) of the estimated cost of Rs.9,265 crore. This 1,656 km long North East Gas Grid will connect eight North-Eastern states i.e. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim. M/s IGGL is a joint venture company of five oil and gas Central Public Sector Enterprises i.e. Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Oil India Limited, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited, GAIL (India) Limited and Numaligarh Refinery Limited.
(d) The establishment of natural gas grid in north-eastern part of the country will help in ushering gas based economy in the North-Eastern Region of the country. This project will supply of natural gas to fertilizer sector, power sector, CGD network, refineries and industrial & commercial establishments in the north-eastern part of the country. Further, development of CGD networks in the North-East States en-route the pipeline project will provide access of PNG/CNG for households in these cities and will cover a large population. This will also reduce the usage of kerosene, wood, LPG, petrol/diesel and, inter-alia, will improve the standards of living of people in the region also by reducing pollution. Project activities are under way and for a project of this nature, a precise date for completion cannot be indicated at this stage in view of the administrative, environmental, land and terrain issues involved.
(e) Apart from North East Gas Grid Pipeline Project, several infrastructure projects have been taken up by the Oil & Gas companies which inter-alia include gas pipeline, gas compressor stations, secondary tank farm project, refinery projects, petroleum product depots and LPG bottling plants.
