Question : NEW COMMISSION FOR WELFARE OF MINORITIES



(a) whether the Government is considering to set up two new Commissions for the welfare of the minorities;

(b) if so, the details thereof including their composition, salient features and objectives, separately; and

(c) the time by which the said Commissions are likely to submit their report?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE & EMPOWERMENT (SMT. SUBBULAKSHMI JAGADEESAN)

(a) & (b) Yes. Sir. A National Commission to submit recommendations regarding welfare of socially and economically backward sections among religious and linguistic minorities and a Commission for providing direct affiliation for minority professional institutions to Central Universities are proposed to be set up soon.

(c) The National Commission will be given six months time from the date of its constitution to submit its report.
