Question : ALLOCATION FOR GRAIN BANKS



(a) the quantum of foodgrains demanded and allocated for Village Grains Banks during each of the last three years and the current year, Sate-wise;

(b) the funds allocated and utilized under the scheme during the said period, State-wise;

(c) whether the Government proposes to remove all the duties on the foodgrains allocated under the scheme; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a)to(d): Food grains are allocated to the States @ 40 quintals per Village Grain Bank sanctioned. Department of Food and Public Distribution has allocated 60,896 tons of food grains to 18 States under Village Grain Bank Scheme during last three years and current year 2009-10 (up to November, 2009) as per State-wise details given in Annex-I. During the said period, Rs.101.63 crore have been allocated by Government to States. Rs.55.95 crore have been utilized by them as per details given in Annex-II.

The food grains under the Village Grain Bank Scheme are allocated free of cost by the Department to the concerned States for establishment of Village Grain Banks. There are no duties imposed by the Central Government on such allocations. Similarly the State Governments are expected to impose no levy/tax on them.
