(a) Scheme of Special Awards to medal winners in International Sports events and their coaches is already being implemented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, under which cash awards to sportspersons and their coaches are given for the medals won in sports disciplines included in Olympic Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, etc. and in chess.
All expenses for training and participation in selected international competitions for elite athletes are brone by the Government through the ‘Scheme of Assistance to National Sports Federations’.
(b) The number of sportspersons/coaches given cash awards during each of the last three and the current year are given in the table below:

(c) The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has revised the scheme of Special Awards to Medal Winners in Sports Events and their coaches in international sporting events on 29th January, 2015 in which amount of cash awards has been enhanced. (d) & (e): The National Sports Policy, 2001 is already in existence. The sailent features of the National Sports Policy 2001, are as under:
(i) Broad-basing of sports and achievement of excellence;
(ii) Up-gradtion and development of infrastructure;
(iii) Support to National Sports Federations and other sports
(iv) Strengthening of scientific and coaching support to sports;
(v) Special incentives to promote sports;
(vi) Enchanced participation of women, scheduled tribes and rural
(vii) Involvement of corporate sector in sports promotion; and
(viii) Promote sports mindedness among the public at large.
Further, the Ministry is implementing the scheme of National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons, under which lump sum ex-gratia financial assistance is given to outstanding sportspersons of yesteryears, now living in indigent condition towards their medical treatment etc.
(f) The Government is not paying any special attention to promotion and development of cricket. The Ministry does not provide any financial assistance to BCCI.
