MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT
(SHRI RAM KRIPAL YADAV)

(a) & (b): No, Madam. However, a proposal is under consideration to involve members of Self Help Groups formed under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) in providing safe and community monitored public transport services to connect remote villages with services and markets which will give a fillip to overall economic development of the area.

(c): As the proposal is still under consideration, no funds has been allocated or released so far.

(d) & (e): M/s. Urban Mass Transit Company Limited, Gurgaon, has carried out a Prefeasibility Study for Providing Rural Transport Services. As per the study, majority of the rural population are still dependent on unsafe, unorganised passenger transport. Consequently, the rural population is unable to access markets, health care, education, etc. in safe, comfortable and convenient manner. In order to develop safe and convenient accessibility and mobility in rural areas it is necessary to leverage the rural roads network developed under Pradhan Manti Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) to provide rural passenger transport services. According to this study, 8-12 seater vehicles are more suitable for rural areas.
