Question : VEGETATION IN WAZIRABAD BIODIVERSITY PARK



(a) whether the Government is aware that Wazirabad Biodiversity Park is polluted and there is little vegetation left for birds as reported in The Indian Express dated January 8, 2005;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; and

(c) the steps taken/ to be taken by the Government to improve the vegetation in the Park in future ?

(a)& (b) The news item dated 8th January 2005 in Indian Express mentions the fact of 700-1000 Siberian birds being spotted at the Wazirabad Biodiversity Park since first week of December and the prospect of their remaining there till March of the year. The news item attributes the arrival of birds to artificial recreation of eco-system of shallow wetlands and grasslands. As per available information, the Bio-diversity Park attracted 700-2000 birds between December, 2004 to March 2005.

(c) The Biodiversity Park is being developed by Delhi Development Authority and the University of Delhi and various plant species are being planted to further improve vegetation cover.
