Question : RRR of Water Bodies

(a) the details and salient features of Repair, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) of water bodies along with the State-wise expenditure incurred thereunder during the last three years;

(b) the number and type of water bodies viz., canals, ponds, wells etc. revived under the scheme during the said period in view of the shortage of water resources in various States including Rajasthan, State-wise;

(c) the names of the water bodies proposed to be repaired/restored/renovated in future; and

(d) whether a number of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) are pending for approval under this scheme in the country particularly Rajasthan and if so, the time by which approval is likely to be granted?

(a) & (b) Works related to water resources development & management are planned, funded, executed and maintained by the State Governments themselves as per their own resources and priorities. In order to supplement the efforts of the State Governments, Government of India provides technical and financial assistance to State Governments to encourage sustainable development and efficient management of water resources through various schemes and programmes such as scheme for Repair, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) of water bodies etc.

The objectives of RRR of water bodies scheme are Comprehensive improvement and restoration of water bodies thereby increasing tank storage capacity, Ground Water Recharge, Increased availability of drinking water, Improvement in agriculture/horticulture productivity, etc. As per guidelines, water bodies with water spread area of 2 to 10 ha in urban areas and more than 5.0 ha in rural areas are considered for inclusion under the scheme of RRR of water bodies.
State-wise details, including Rajasthan, on number of water bodies included during XII Plan, expenditure on the same during the last three years and number of water bodies revived till 03/2016 are given in Annex-I.

(c) During XII Plan, out of the 1354 water bodies included under RRR scheme, works of 464 water bodies have been completed. The works of other 890 water bodies are planned to be completed by 03/2017.

(d) During XII Plan, 21 States have proposed 3782 water bodies, including 68 from Rajasthan for inclusion in the scheme. Out of these, 1354 water bodies including 32 from Rajasthan have been included. Time period for approval of balance schemes depends upon compliance of the State Government in respect of information required as per the guidelines of the Scheme.
