Question : Pre-Primary Education in Government Schools

(a) whether the Government is planning to mandate setting up of pre-primary sections in State Government schools from 2020-2021 and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether there will grant from the Central Government for the States for implementing the same and if so, the details thereof;

(c) the total number of State Government schools and the corresponding number of schools with pre-primary sections, State-wise; and

(d) the State-wise details of number of children who are currently enrolled in pre-primary sections in State Government schools, State-wise?

(a) : The Integrated Scheme for School Education- Samagra Shiksha was launched in 2018-19 by Ministry of Human Resource Development. The Scheme envisages the school as a continuum from Pre-School to Senior Secondary levels, also sometimes referred to as KG to 12th class. Under Samagra Shiksha, the preschool programme is recognized as a critical component of the Scheme and supports the efforts of State Government in providing Pre-school education in schools either through co-location of Anganwadis in Primary Schools wherever feasible in convergence with Ministry/Department of Women and Child Development or through pre-school section in primary schools.


(b) : The details of the grant that has been given from the Central Government to the States/UTs for implementing the pre-school education in all Government schools, are as under :
