Question : Complaints against Radio FM

(a) whether the Government is aware of the fact that obscenity is being broadcasted and dual meaning/indecent language is being used on radio FM;

(b) if so, the action taken on the complaints received in this regard; and

(c) the details and the steps taken by the Government to check recurrence of such case in future?

(a) to (c) Private FM Radio channels are required to comply with the terms & conditions of Grant of Permission Agreement (GOPA) executed with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. Clause 7.6 of the GOPA provides that the Permission Holder shall ensure that no content, messages, advertisement or communication, transmitted in its Broadcast Channel is objectionable, obscene, unauthorized or inconsistent with the laws of India. Clause 11.1 of the GOPA provides that the Permission Holder shall follow the same Programme and Advertisement codes followed by All India Radio, as amended from time to time or any other applicable code, which the Central Government may prescribe from time to time. Further, this Ministry issued Advisories to all Private FM Radio broadcasters, advising them to strictly adhere to the terms and conditions prescribed in the GOPA, the latest advisory being issued on 24.02.2022, which is available in the Ministry’s website (www.mib.gov.in). In cases where any violation is reported, appropriate action is taken including issue of advisory & warning.
